Amid smoke haze and bushfires, Drift Media recently covered all the action from the Farr 40 State Titles, held at Bellereve Yacht Club in Hobart.
Two days of close competitive one design racing, on one of the best sailing waters in the world!
January 04-06 2013
Look carefully for the shoulder of Drift Media at 02.08!
We filmed an interview with surf, kite and windsurf champion Kai Lenny for RPS the Boardstore, and they filmed us filming the film!!
Drift Media recently worked with Automobility- taking Tanya Clarke on a hotlap of Sandown in a V8 Racecar.
Tanya is wheelchair bound, but it didnt stop her reaching speeds of over 200kmh in Jeff Watter’s Number 96 VS Commodore.
Drift recently worked with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation on a piece which profiled the Brass Monkeys Winter Speed Challenge. The 2 minute segment was produced for for ABC Open, and features interviews with a bunch of windsurfers at Inverloch who chase the fastest speeds on the coldest day.
The segment will be compiled with other sport profiles in a project called 110%.
Drift Media is profiled in the ABC Open Gippsland blog as part of the project.
The Brass Monkeys segment was also picked up by ABC News 24 and screened on October 31 to a National audience.
Drift recently filmed a gig of local swamp/ surf/ rockabilly band The Voodoo Swamp Daddies.
The 3 piece played a great set at Lucky 13’s Garage in Moorabbin.
Camera Op- Michael Green approached the gig with a unique outlook. “we’ve been using go pros for a long time- especially for high action content” he says, “and so I thought why not try them in a band environment?…I mean they are light, have a nice wide angle and can capture continuously for 90 mins.”.
Michael teamed the go pro footage up with a SONY Ex1 chase camera. “Essentially as a single camera set up, it gives me heaps of different angles to chose from”.
Drift Media was involved at the 2012 KA Moth Nationals, held at Mornington Yacht Club in January.
After working with sail company Zhik on the 2011 World Moth Sailing Championship at Lake Belmont (NSW) in 2011, Mornington was a different story.
Big winds, and a big swell, did not deter the competitors……All up, a great week of racing.
We were engaged to shoot and edit Daily Highlights as the regatta unfolded. Dan Thomas has put together a fantastic compilation of the event.
Drift Media has recently been working with Bastow Instiute to showcase their amazing space in North Melbourne. The Institute has been designed to showcase the old – it was previously North Melbourne State school, and the new- with cutting edge spaces and technology.

On 19th April, the crew at RPS opened their doors and had an exclusive screening of “Paradise Blown”- a windsurf adventure doco about two blokes from Melbourne who designed and built their own touring windsurfer, and then toured the islands of Fiji.
It was a case of BYO chair as over 30 people attended to watch the doco, drink some beer and eat some pizza.
Windsurf Adventurers, also Matt Tonner and Adrian Rowe gave a brief chat about their Fiji trip.
and contrary to rumours that windsurfers are tight wads…over $250 was raised for the Fijian Flood Relief.
